For over three hundred
years, residents of Hancock County have proudly
proclaimed the numerous virtues of their coastal
Mississippi home. Natural wonders abound - from
extraordinary Gulf vistas, to expansive marshes, to
rich forests.
In the last
century, our mild winter climate has attracted
residents and visitors who enjoy year-round
recreational activities like fishing, golf, boating
or simply strolling along the beach paths. Our
economy became diversified, welcoming both small and
large business concerns. In the 1960’s, we became
home to
Stennis Space Center,
a hub of new technology. Artists flocked to the
region, drawn by our historic buildings, quaint
towns and a unique sense of community.
In 2005, Hancock County
received national attention as “ground zero” for
Hurricane Katrina - what many have called the worst
natural disaster in U.S. history. Yet in the midst
of monumental loss, the citizens of the county have
proven that a sense of community is the glue that
survives even the worst devastation. In fact, our
bonds became stronger and today, Hancock County is
rebounding at a speed many predicted was
impossible.
Working tirelessly as
one, our goal is to rebuild a
remarkable and memorable place,
one that values quality of life alongside long-term
prosperity. Our vision is to become the gem of the
entire Gulf Coast. We invite you to join us –
we’ve been tested in the worst of times - now we’re
building towards the best of times.
