    Leadership Hancock County

APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED

“A leader is a visionary who inspires others to create a vision for the future and inspires people to make the vision a reality.”

Leadership Hancock County is an annual program introduced by the Hancock Chamber in 1996, which develops and promotes leadership skills and community awareness for participants interested in seeking leadership opportunities for the betterment of Hancock County.

Leadership Hancock County Mission Statement

“Leadership Hancock County supports current and emerging leaders by facilitating them in 1) developing their skills, 2) creating community awareness, and 3) building understanding of the impact of global events. Each participant becomes part of a growing network of leaders that have the motivation, sense of commitment and opportunity to become change agents for the good of Hancock County. “

Participants must be residents of Hancock County or employed in Hancock County. Applications for Leadership Hancock County are accepted annually between June 1st and July 31st of each year. To be considered for selection in the program, your application must be received in the Chamber office by 5:00 p.m. on the July 31, 2009 deadline. Application forms can be obtained through the Chamber Office located at 412 Highway 90, Suite 6 in Bay St. Louis or you can download here.

Preference is given to candidates who, in addition to their potential for leadership, will contribute to the overall diversity and strength of the class and have available time and resources to commit to the program and future community service. The annual fee to participate is $350 per person. Scholarships are available.

The year starts with a kick-off meeting between the new class and the alumni in September, a two-day retreat in October and six day-long sessions running from November through May (excluding December) with the final graduation banquet in June. Sessions focus on the building blocks of community development and current events. They include field trips, guest speakers, skill building workshops, and class projects. Outside projects/assignments may be required.

Our mission is accomplished using the building blocks of community development: business development, workforce development, physical infrastructure, social infrastructure, heritage preservation, and civic infrastructure.

By the end of the year each class member will have a working knowledge of the building blocks and critical current events, so that their leadership can have a positive affect on the entire community.

The class is given ample opportunity to network to give them the necessary “glue” for a working relationship that continues long into the future. Networking and leadership skill building begins during the opening retreat and continues through the year.
